The Donohoe Tradition

It’s that time of year again! Time for holiday goodies, free-flowing treats, and lots of sweet nibbles.

When I was a young child, our family made Christmas cookies each year. My grandmother dutifully would make sugar cookies in varied shapes, frosting of each color of the rainbow, and a large meal for the family. After eating, we would all gather around the table and decorate cookies. It was her favorite time of year, and she did all she could to keep family close around the holidays.

My mom still carries this tradition, as do I. My husband and I started making these candied pretzels the first year we were married, and have been making them each year since. It’s great to do together; I coat the pretzels, he sprinkles the sugar crystals over.

Much like my Grandmother’s cookies, these pretzels get the whole family involved and in the Christmas spirit. Hope you enjoy!

Candy Coated Pretzels

1 box Baker’s white candy chocolate
Tiny twist pretzels
Red and green sugar sprinkles

Melt chocolate according to package directions. Dip pretzels in chocolate, coating entirely and allowing excess to drip off. Place on a lined baking sheet, sprinkle with desired amount of sugar before chocolate sets. Slide baking sheet in the fridge and allow chocolate to harden. Remove from pans and store in an airtight container.
